“The faculty members, senior residents, junior residents and house surgeons are directed not to proceed for any kind of leave and remain present on duty due to the notice given by the Nurses Association of PGIMS for indefinite strike from August 8. Due to emergency, the leave of all faculty members is cancelled with immediate effect till further order,” stated the circular issued by the PGIMS Director.

As per the authorities, nursing staff members on probation as well as students of MSc and BSc (Nursing), M.Pharma and B.Pharma courses have been deployed in place of the regular nurses.

The president of the Nurses Association, Vikas Phogat, asserted that the strike would continue until their demand for a hike in the nursing allowance was met.

“We remained on strike today also. There was no call for talks from the authorities concerned. The strike will continue till our demand is met,” said Phogat.

The number of patients visiting the OPDs was considerably reduced, while the indoor wards bore a deserted look as the patients and their attendants were dissuaded from getting admitted to the institute in view of the nurses’ strike.

Several patients and their attendants said they had been advised by the doctors and other staff members to go to some other hospital as the PGIMS nurses were on an indefinite strike.
