PGIMS Rohtak introduces cashless treatment for road mishap victims
Pt BD Sharma PGIMS has introduced a cashless medical scheme that provides free treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh for road accident victims. The initiative, launched under the Central Government’s directive, was inaugurated by PGIMS Director Prof SK Singhal and Medical Superintendent Dr Kundan Mittal, with Dr Pankaj Chhikara, in charge of the Trauma Centre, designated as the nodal officer.
Explaining the scheme, Prof Singhal said, “In Haryana, road accident victims who reach the Trauma Centre within 24 hours will now receive free medical care up to Rs 1.5 lakh. This initiative has been introduced as per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' guidelines.”
Under the scheme, once a road accident victim arrives at the Trauma Centre, their details will be entered into an e-portal, and they will be admitted like any other patient. The Transaction Management System will generate a unique patient ID, which will be recorded on the file.
“The victim’s data will then be uploaded into the software and sent to the relevant police station for verification. The police must confirm within six hours whether the person was indeed injured in a road accident. Upon confirmation, cashless treatment will be provided. A dedicated pharmacist has been appointed to oversee this process,” said Prof Singhal.
He expressed confidence that this initiative would be a major relief for accident victims and their families, ensuring timely treatment without financial burden. Dr Rajesh Rohilla, incharge of the Trauma Centre, will oversee its implementation.
Medical Superintendent Dr Kundan Mittal revealed that the scheme had already been put into action. “Today, a road accident victim has been registered under this scheme in the Surgery Department, and patients have started availing benefits from day one,” he said.
He explained that the hospital and the government will cover treatment costs up to Rs 1.5 lakh or for up to seven days. “All doctors concerned have been briefed about the scheme,” he added.
To ensure hassle-free access, special responsibilities have been assigned to pharmacists, senior nursing officers, senior residents, consultants, and duty doctors.
