Haryana: Plea challenging CET junked, Rs 1L costs imposed

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed with Rs 1 lakh costs a writ petition challenging the Common Eligibility Test (CET) conducted by the State of Haryana for selection/ recruitment to Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts in the state services. The Bench of Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sudeepti Sharma pronounced the order after the state counsel pointed out that the issue raised in the present petition already stood adjudicated by the High Court while hearing a bunch of petitions, wherein similar arguments were advanced.

The counsel added the court had proceeded to dismiss the writ petitions after examining all the aspects relating to the CET. He further added the present writ petition could not have been filed as the adjudication had attained finality way back in 2023. The Bench asserted the subsequent petitions relating to the same issue were not maintainable once the court had been finally adjudicated and examined all the aspects relating to CET. Merely because the petitioners were not a party to the writ petitions, they could again have not approached the court challenging the same.
