Chandigarh, January 31

More than three-decade-old issue revolving around allotment of plots to Kashmiri Pandits resettled in Bahadurgarh town has been resolved, with Chief Minister approving a move to waive the entire interest on external development charges (EDC).

As the matter came up for hearing before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, a statement to this effect was made on behalf of the HSVP by senior Additional Advocate-General PS Chauhan. Taking a note of the submission, a Bench of Justice Arun Palli and Justice Vikram Aggarwal disposed of the writ petitions after making it clear that HSVP will raise the demand of revised EDC at the rate of Rs 935 per square yard.

The amounts paid towards EDC already would be adjusted. The balance amount would be demanded while extra amount paid refunded. The allottees would have to pay the demanded amount within two weeks. On clearance of due EDC, regular letters of allotment would be issued to the alottees within six weeks.

Advocate Padamkant Dwivedi appeared on behalf of Roop Kishan Koul, Reapan Tikoo and other petitioners.
