The first passenger train between Hansi and Rohtak started on the newly laid Hansi-Meham-Rohtak railway track today. The first train chugged off from Rohtak today after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it through video conferencing in Rewari on Thursday.

State contributed 50% in Rs 889 cr project

  • The Rohtak-Meham-Hansi new rail line project has been completed at a cost of Rs 889.28 crore
  • It was sanctioned on a cost-sharing basis, with Haryana Government contributing 50 per cent of the cost incurred
  • The project bridges the gap in direct rail connectivity between Rohtak and Hisar, two pivotal towns of the state
  • Previously, these towns were connected via Bhiwani through Rohtak-Bhiwani and Bhiwani-Hansi-Hisar rail line
  • The project’s foundation stone was laid about a decade ago and it was scheduled to be completed in five years. However, the project got delayed due to difficulty in the acquisition of land

The Prime Minister dedicated to the nation the Rohtak-Meham-Hansi rail line (68 km), which will reduce travel time between Rohtak and Hisar.

The first train flagged off by the PM reached Hansi at 4.02 pm. The train started began its return journey to Rohtak at 4.20 pm. Railway officials said on the first journey from Hansi to Rohtak, a total of 17 passengers purchased tickets worth Rs 585.

The Hansi-Meham-Rohtak rail line had been long awaited by residents of the area. The foundation stone of this rail line was laid a decade ago.

Earlier, the train from Hisar used to run via Bhiwani to reach Rohtak. This route was 109-km long. Now, this distance has been reduced to 90 km (including Rohtak-Meham-Hansi at 68.5 km). The project has been completed at a cost of Rs 889.28 crore.

The new rail line consists of stations at Dobh Bahali, Mokhra Madina, Meham, Mundhal Kalan, and Garhi and has 141 minor bridges and six major bridges.

The new track will significantly benefit parts of Rohtak, Bhiwani and Hisar districts, facilitating direct access between Rohtak and Hisar, while reducing Rohtak-Hansi distance by 20 km and also reducing the travel time by about 30 minutes, said a railway official.
