Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually inaugurated the Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy in Devarkhana village here. The authorities say that the construction of the centre, developed over 19 acres at a cost of Rs 63.88 crore, started in 2016.
Sources said the OPD and yoga classes were introduced in February 2021. A 200-bed hospital has been set up at the institute, but it is yet to be made functional.
However, Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda claimed he got this ambitious project sanctioned from the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush in 2008 when there was UPA government at the Centre and Hooda government in the state.
On his social media accounts, he claimed, “The work to acquire the land for the project was started in 2009-10. While 70 per cent of the work got completed by 2014, the institute has been waiting for inauguration for the past five years. It is a matter of satisfaction that, albeit late, the PM has finally inaugurated the institute. I express my gratitude to him and also urge him to allocate a budget for 10 other institutes at AIIMS-2, Badhsa, which were sanctioned during the previous Congress government’s rule.”
Meanwhile, an official said that the institute was the first yoga and naturopathy centre in the state. He said it would cater to treatment of various problems like obesity, prediabetes, metabolic syndrome, arthritis, pain syndromes, cardiovascular diseases, dyslipidemia, autoimmune diseases, cancer rehab, neurodegenerative diseases, etc.
He said, “Today, we see an increase in the number of non-communicable diseases that are a consequence of physical inactivity, poor nutrition and lifestyle. This centre facilitates a holistic approach towards curing such problems.”
The centre has an outpatient and administrative block; general, special and suite wards; staff quarters, yoga hall, diet centre, treatment sections with hydrotherapy, magnetotherapy, chromotherapy, massage and physiotherapy section along with hostels and directors’ quarters. The centre will hold a short-term fellowship course in yoga and naturopathy, stated an official press-release.
