Haryana Police, Agri Dept join hands to ensure fair urea, DAP distribution
With the kharif sowing season at its peak and fertiliser demand surging, the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has issued instructions to all Deputy Commissioners to ensure fair and smooth distribution of urea and DAP, while cracking down on pilferage to neighbouring states.
According to department officials, while Haryana has adequate stocks of urea, DAP and other fertilisers, tight micro-management at the district level is essential to ensure last-mile availability and prevent irregularities.
“There are clear instructions to Deputy Commissioners to take strict steps to check such pilferage immediately. The administration is concerned about the potential diversion of fertilisers, which may disrupt supply within Haryana and impact genuine farmers,” said a senior department official.
To streamline supply and improve accessibility, the department has decided to route 40% of total fertiliser distribution through Hafed, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and the cooperative sector.
The department has directed officials to curb black marketing, hoarding and tagging of fertilisers, and has asked for real-time inventory updates through the Fertilizer Monitoring System (FMS) by ensuring all Point of Sale (POS) machines are updated.
In Hisar district, special flying squads comprising agriculture and police department officials have been formed to monitor sales points and prevent diversion of fertiliser. Additionally, checkpoints have been set up along state borders to stop unauthorised transportation.
“These flying squads and checkpoints will help curb black marketing and ensure that fertilisers are transparently delivered to genuine farmers,” said Dr Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director, Agriculture.
He said close coordination among field officials and prompt response to complaints will be key to maintaining transparency and availability.
