Dispute over sharing of alms turns fatal for beggar

The police have arrested a beggar for allegedly killing another physically challenged beggar over money. The accused has been identified as Naeem, a resident of Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh.

Police spokesperson Chamkaur Singh said a team of Buria Gate police post arrested Naeem for strangulating Janab Salmani (37) in Jagadhri on October 21 over alms money.

Gurdayal Singh, incharge of police post, said in her complaint Salmani mother Najma, a resident of Ambala district, alleged that her physically challenged son used begged on a wheelchair.

About 15 days ago, Naeem started begging along with Salmani. “Both lived in a rented house in Jagadhri’s Saraswati Colony. On October 22, Salmani was found dead in the room,” said Gurdayal Singh.

He added that the post-mortem report confirmed that Salmani had died of strangulation. The cop said Naeem was absconding.

“During investigation, it was revealed by Naeem had a dispute with Salmani over alms as they had collected a significant amount of money through begging during Diwali,” said Gurdayal Singh.
