Police encounter leads to arrest of gang rape suspects
A gang rape incident in Gurugram has led to a police encounter resulting in the arrest of all three suspects involved. The incident occurred on the night of December 23 when the victim was abducted from an auto rickshaw and assaulted in a truck at a secluded location.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aman Yadav, the encounter took place near Chandiwala Bagh, close to Amrita Hospital, as a crime branch team, led by Inspector Anil Kumar, acted on intelligence reports. One of the accused, identified as Mukesh, originally from Aligarh but residing locally, allegedly opened fire on the police while attempting to escape. In response, officers returned fire, wounding Mukesh’s leg. He has since been treated and discharged from a civil hospital.
The arrested suspects — Mukesh, Rakesh and Rajkumar — are aged between 28 and 32. Rakesh is already wanted for an assault case. All three are currently under interrogation as police seek to locate the truck used in the crime.
The victim said she was kidnapped immediately after exiting the auto rickshaw and taken to a deserted area where she was raped. Following her complaint on December 24, police launched an investigation that culminated in last night’s arrests. The suspects are now in three days of police remand for further questioning.
