Panipat, July 10
The Panipat police have got clogged drains, on both sides of National Highway-44 under the elevated highway, cleaned to deal with traffic jams caused by waterlogging during the rain. However, it was the responsibility of the L&T company, which is maintaining the elevated highway.
The monsoon has arrived and rain lashed the city two times, which caused the city to be waterlogged. A heavy traffic jam was witnessed, due to water accumulation on both sides of NH-44. The police personnel, with pants folded up to their knees, were seen clearing the congestion for hours.
Following the traffic problems during the rainy season, especially on NH-44, the Police Department has decided to resolve the problem. Sandeep Kumar, DSP, Traffic, along with MC officials and L&T company officials visited various sites and also identified the points on NH-44 where the waterlogging problem occurred regularly. Three main points on NH44 — Sanjay Chowk, near Khadi Ashram and near grain market cut— have been identified where drains and sewer pipes were choked with plastic, garbage and silt.
The DSP said the drain and sewer at all identified points had been cleaned by the earthmoving machine with the support of L&T company employees. These were choked with silt and garbage, he added.
Besides, the iron net has also been fixed after digging these drains so that heavy garbage, plastic do not get into the drains. This was the main reason behind the choking of sewers and drains, the DSP maintained.
