In a significant initiative to aid road accident victims, the Haryana Police has introduced a cashless treatment facility covering up to Rs 1.5 lakh for injured individuals. So far, 21 people have benefited from the scheme.

Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana’s Home Department, Sumita Mishra, highlighted the seamless coordination between the National Health Authority, local police, and the state Health Department to implement this initiative. "Under this scheme, government-empanelled hospitals will provide treatment and the hospital management will upload the data of the injured person into its software while informing the police station concerned. The police will confirm within six hours whether the person was involved in a road accident. Upon confirmation, the individual will receive cashless treatment," she explained.

She further stated that the scheme operates under Section 162 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Mishra also emphasised the need for improved road safety measures, urging officers to install traffic warning signs on highways, particularly in accident-prone zones. "It is crucial to raise awareness about traffic rules. The common man should also come forward to help road accident victims," she urged.
