Police team attacked in Faridabad, four injured

Went to arrest accused in vehicle theft case

Four police personnel of the Faridabad police were seriously injured after being attacked by a criminal, his family members and other villagers at Jamalgarh village in Nuh district. The injured cops are being treated in Gurugram and Faridabad hospitals.

The police team had arrested a person accused in a vehicle theft case, and was attacked as the accused’s family attempted to free him from police custody.

They pelted stones at the cops, and even tried to crush them with a car, but the police managed to arrest the criminal and take him away.

According to a complaint filed by ASI Samsuddin of the Sikrona, Faridabad, crime unit, a police team, led by Sub-Inspector Sunder, had gone to Jamalgarh village on Friday to nab a criminal involved in a case of motorcycle theft.

The accused has been identified as Salim, alias Salli, a resident of Jamalgarh village. He had allegedly bought a stolen bike.

“We arrested the accused from the Ghusinga road, and left in a private car. Soon after, a white jeep started following our vehicle. When we reached Aadarav Chowk, Jamalgarh, at around 2.00 pm, 15-20 men and a woman standing on the side of the road started pelting stones at our vehicle. The driver, constable Vikrant, turned the vehicle towards Punhana, and the vehicle got overturned. While we were standing on the side of a road with the accused, the driver of a jeep hit us. Sub-inspector Sunder, Head Constable Yunis Khan, and constables Vikrant and Nitin were injured in the ordeal. They tried to free the accused from our custody but constable Bhupender reached the spot in a police vehicle and they fled,” the ASI said in his complaint.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the BNS at the Punhana police station on Saturday in this regard. The injured are out of danger.

“An FIR has been registered and we are conducting raids to nab the accused, who are absconding. The accused will be arrested soon,” said Inspector Jasvir Singh, SHO of the Punhana police station.
