Palwal, February 3
A team of district officials, who had gone to check illegal mining of sand at the Yamuna river at Khambi village in the district, was attacked on Friday evening.
The police have registered a case in connection with the incident of assault but no one has been arrested so far.
Sanjay Kumar, spokesperson of the Police Department, said two cops, identified as Mool Chand and Sepoy Pawan Singh, suffered injuries after they were assaulted by a mob of around 12 persons near the Bamnikhera bridge.
He said the team consisting of three officials had intercepted a tractor trolley carrying sand illegally on Friday evening near Khambi village during a raid carried out on the basis of inputs.
The team had arrested the driver of the tractor and seized a trolley laden with sand. But about 12 persons attacked the team that was on its way to the police station, he added.
It is claimed that the accused fled with the tractor trolley. The police said while two of the accused have been identified, the remaining were unnamed in the FIR.
