The ‘early announcement’ of the Haryana Assembly elections by the Election Commission of India (ECI) seems to have caught the ruling BJP off guard.
The BJP government, which was expecting the announcement of polls and subsequent enforcement of the model code of conduct by August-end, has been left at its wits’ end as it had planned to unveil sops for cross-section of society in the run-up to the Assembly polls.
Sources said the Saini government had chalked out an elaborate plan to unveil bonanza for different sections in the next fortnight in a bid to beat anti-incumbency in the Assembly polls. “However, the sudden announcement of the Assembly polls has upset our plans of rolling out various schemes for the common citizen,” a senior BJP functionary said.
Currently, the BJP top brass, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli, has launched a massive outreach programme across the state to woo the voters ahead of the polls. In these rallies, Saini announced a slew of new initiatives for a cross-section of society apparently with an eye on the elections. With model code of conduct in force, the new announcements by the CM will now be a thing of the past.
