The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), Yamunanagar, has sealed seven stone crushers, allegedly being operated in violation of the Air and Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Acts.

A team comprising Assistant Environmental Engineer Abhijeet Singh Tanwar and field attendant Rupinder Singh implemented the closure orders issued by the Chairman of the HSPCB against the crushers being operated at Ghoro Pipli, Majri Tapu and Kanalsi villages of the district.

According to information, these units were inspected in May and June by field officers — in connection with a case lodged with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) — to verify their compliance status with environmental norms.

The units were found non-complying with the provisions of the stone crusher notification dated May 11, 2016, as well as consent to operate (CTO).

Accordingly, recommendations for closure were submitted by the Regional Officer, Yamunanagar, to the HSPCB head office.

In September, action to implement sealing was initiated against the units. However, due to heavy rain and flooding, the crusher areas were submerged. Consequently, the sealing could not be executed.

“After improvement in weather conditions and recession of floodwaters, the closure orders were implemented on September 24 by sealing the plant/machinery of the crushers,” said Tanwar.
