Pond project at Jhajjar village reaches final stage
Will resolve waterlogging problem, provide water to farmers in drought-hit areas
Jhajjar, July 21
In order to resolve the issue of waterlogging and to provide adequate water to farmers in drought-affected villages, the district authorities are constructing a big pond at Samsapur Majra village. The project is in its final stage and the pond will have a storage capacity of 6.36 crore litres.
The construction of this pond will benefit people of many villages, including Suddan, Sarola and Samsapur Majra. Farmers of the villages located towards Zahidpur Minor (canal), which are facing water shortage, will be able to get sufficient water from this pond that will lead to rise in the production of crops, said Deputy Commissioner Shakti Singh.

“Former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had approved this project during his tenure at a meeting held to discuss possible measures to resolve the issues of drought and floods in the area. The pond is being constructed by the Irrigation Department for the storage of rainwater on 12 acres of panchayat land of Samsapur Majra at a cost of Rs 8.67 crore. The project has reached its final stage. The work of laying the pipeline is in progress,” said the DC.
He claimed that the main objective of this newly constructed pond is to store rainwater of Samsapur Majra and surrounding villages so as to resolve the issue of waterlogging permanently. Due to the lack of the drainage system, crops get damaged due to the accumulation of rainwater in the fields. Moreover, villagers, too, have to face a lot of problems. Now, this water will be collected in this pond and there would be no problem of waterlogging in the village, he added.
“This pond water will be used for irrigation purposes. This will provide farmers adequate water for farming, which will improve their crops and increase production. A dam is being built around this pond. After its construction, a beautification project has also been proposed, in which trees will be planted. We are looking for tourism possibilities here so that the panchayat can generate income,” said the DC.
