Poor drainage, choked sewers lead to waterlogging in Hisar

The Hisar Municipal Council members took cudgels against the district authorities on the issue of waterlogging in the town. They alleged that despite spending huge funds, there was no improvement in the drainage system in the town. Officials blamed the dairies operating in the residential localities for choked sewerage system.

Mayor unhappy with works done

Mayor Gautam Sardana called a meeting of officials of the state Public Health Engineering (PHE), Public Works Department (PWD), Haryana Sahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) besides the MC officials after several complaints was filed on waterlogging in several localities in the town.

The Mayor expressed his displeasure over the works carried out on drainage system in the town. He said a brief spell of rain waterlogged the entire town and it was taking a lot of time for water to recede which exposed the poor drainage system.

Posh areas too face same problem

The drainage system was not cleaned in Sectors 9, 11, 13, 16 and 17 of the town, which resulted in waterlogging and blockage in these areas. Even the posh localities are also facing the similar problem. —Amit Grover, MC member from Ward No.14

Senior Deputy Mayor Anil Saini, Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr Pradeep Hooda, Councillors Jagmahan Mittal, Mahender Juneja, Anil Jain, Umed Khanna, Bhup Singh Rohilla, Amit Grover, Pritam Saini, Pinky Narendra Sharma, Narender Sharma, Satish Surlia, Pankaj Dewan, Raju and Sushil Sharma were present at the meeting.

The MC member from Ward No.4, Preetam Saini, said though special funds were provided to clean the main sewer line from Fawwara Chowk to Dabra Chowk, several localities, including Mahavir Colony, Mittal colony, Sainian Mohalla, Mill Gate, Azad Nagar, Rishi Nagar, Barah Quarters, Vidhya Nagar, Surya Nagar had many pockets that was flooded with rainwater. “But even after several hours, the rainwater did not recede which exposed the poor drainage system in the town”, he said.

Amit Grover, MC member from Ward No.14 said the drainage system was not cleaned in Sectors 9,11, 13, 16 and 17 in the town which resulted in waterlogging and blockage in these areas. Even the posh localities such as Green Park, Officers Colony, Police Lines area sector are also facing the same problem.

The Mayor pulled up the officials stating that residents of the town were bearing the brunt due to the laxity and negligence of officials concerned. The Mayor asked the officials to find a solution to the problem of choked sewerage system. Some of the officials said there were several dairies operating in certain localities in the town where cattle dung was drained out in the sewerage, which was resulting in blockage of the sewerage system. The officials decided to cut off the sewerage connection of dairy owners operating in residential localities.
