Sirsa, August 20
A block-level school sports competition began at Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School in Rania today. Around 800 players from various government and private schools in the block are participating in the event.
However, several problems were witnessed due to inadequate arrangements by the Education Department. No official of the department attended the opening ceremony. Besides, players struggled due to lack of drinking water and other facilities amid intense humid conditions. The absence of amenities led to protests from players, who criticised the department and the school management.
Participants and coaches complained about the poor condition of the track and field, which was uneven and had wild overgrowth of weeds. They also highlighted the lack of basic facilities like clean drinking water, shaded resting areas and refreshments. Referees and coaches expressed concerns about potential injuries due to unsafe conditions, questioning why this location was chosen for the event.
In response, Rania Block Education Officer Sunita Sai stated that she had addressed the issues immediately after being informed. She assured that the problems would be resolved and that the remaining four days of the competition would proceed without further inconvenience to the players.
