Sirsa, July 11

The Haryana Government is organising its second Population Stability Fortnight aimed at promoting population control measures from July 11 to 24. In Sirsa, all government hospitals will host camps and offer vasectomies and tubectomies. Students from the Government ANM Training School organised an awareness rally, led by Sirsa Civil Surgeon Dr Mahendra Bhadu. The rally in JJ Colony told people about World Population Day. Volunteers distributed pamphlets through counsellors. Dr Bhadu talked about family planning options such as copper-T, condoms, pills, injectables, etc. He said these were readily available at government hospitals and health centres. He also said the government provided incentives on them to encourage family planning.

World Population Day aims at highlighting the impacts of population growth on the environment. Efforts focus on educating people about the positive and negative effects of population growth, emphasising gender equality and reproductive health.

Dr Bharat Bhushan Mittal from the Family Welfare Department said vasectomy was a simple procedure without any side-effects for men. For further information he said, citizens could contact Room No. 21 at the Civil Hospital. He said eligible men would receive an incentive of Rs 2,000 for vasectomy, while eligible women would get Rs 1,400, women opting for immediate tubectomy post-childbirth would get Rs 2,200, and those opting for immediate copper-T insertion post-childbirth or abortion would get Rs 300, he said.
