After remaining shut for 10 days due to Kanwar yatra, timber markets in Manakpur and Mandoli of Yamunanagar district became operational on July 24, thus providing a relief to the plywood industry. Around 450 tractor-trailers carrying wood arrived at timber markets on Friday.
A huge number of kanwarias from Haryana and Punjab use the Yamunanagar- Haridwar road, which is also used by most of the poplar growers of Uttar Pradesh to supply their produce to the plywood industry in Yamunanagar.
The arhtiyas said they took the decision to close timber markets for peaceful conduct of the kanwar yatra.
Baldev Panwar, chief of the Timber Arhtiya Association, Yamunanagar, said around 250 tractor-trailers carrying poplar and eucalyptus reached the timber market of Mandoli village on Friday. He said 200 tractor-trailers brought produce at Manakpur timber village.
According to information, poplar wood was sold for Rs 1,300-Rs 1,600 per quintal and eucalyptus fetched Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,225 per quintal. The plywood factories were being run with available stock during the closure period of timber markets. However, several units had to be closed due to non-availability of timber.
