Poll heat in Ambala City after BJP, Cong declare nominees
With the announcement of candidates by the BJP and the Congress for the mayoral by-election in the Ambala Municipal Corporation, candidates and their supporters have intensified their campaigning.
BJP candidate Shailja Sachdeva filed her nomination on Saturday, while Congress candidate Amisha Chawla will file her nomination on Monday.
While the BJP has started its door-to-door campaigning and corner meetings, the Congress candidate is also holding meetings with party leaders and supporters to intensify their campaigning.
BJP leader and nominated member of Ambala Municipal Corporation Sandeep Sachdeva, who is leading the campaign for his wife Shailja Sachdeva, said, “We are getting tremendous support from the people of Ambala City. The door-to-door campaigning has started and meetings are also being held with the associations and organisations. We have been getting invites for tea programmes and holding corner meetings in all wards.”
“During the meetings we have been assuring the people that smooth and transparent functioning will be ensured in the Municipal Corporation. The people of Ambala wouldn’t have to make rounds of offices to get their work done and the officials will get the work done on priority. From Monday, former Minister of State Aseem Goel will join the campaigning and we have also sought time from Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for a big public meeting in Ambala City. We are confident that we will get the time soon and the BJP will register its victory in the election”, he added.
Meanwhile, Congress Candidate Amisha Chawla, said, “I am grateful to the party high command for reposing faith in me. We will raise the local issues related to the Municipal Corporation during the campaigning. The roads are in poor condition and sanitation is bad. Ambala City witnesses severe waterlogging during the rainy season but nothing has been done on ground to provide relief to the residents. We are confident that like the Assembly election, people of Ambala City will vote for the Congress in the MC poll too”
Amisha, who had contested the previous election of the Municipal Corporation unsuccessfully, said, “Even after the last election we remained in the field and in touch with the people of Ambala City. We know the local issues and problems being faced by the people. The experience of the last election will help us in this election. After nomination, we will intensify our campaigning.”
Congress leader Himmat Singh, said, “The party has fielded a strong candidate. Corruption is rampant in the Municipal Corporation and a number of projects have been lying pending even after missing deadlines. Though it is a byelection with not much tenure left, we are confident that after winning, the Congress Mayor will put things in place and get the works completed.”
