Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal on Friday visited the villages affected by the overflowing rivers in Kurukshetra and said that a masterplan would be prepared to find a permanent solution to the problem.
The MP visited Jalbehra, Naisi, Thaska Miranji, Kalsana and other affected villages of the Pehowa and Shahabad subdivisions.
Naveen Jindal said, “We have visited the affected areas of Pehowa and Shahabad. The crop in thousands of acres has been damaged severely due to waterlogging. I have interacted with the farmers, and they said that they faced losses every year. The farmers have suggested that new bundhs and culverts be constructed to avoid the issue of waterlogging in the future. I will raise the matter with the Irrigation Minister and the Chief Minister so that a proper survey is conducted and a permanent solution is found.”
“For the losses caused by the Markanda river, the government has already opened the e-Kshatipurti portal for the farmers, and the farmers will be compensated for their losses. The farmers should get their claims registered by September 15, so that compensation can be given as soon as possible. The Central and state governments are monitoring the affected areas and providing all possible help. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has already issued instructions and the affected families will be compensated for every loss”, he added.
The Kurukshetra MP said he had a discussion with the farmers and Irrigation Department officials at Jalbehra head to prevent future damage caused by waterlogging in the Markanda river. Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department Muneesh Kumar and JE Naveen gave the MP the description of the entire Markanda area through a map.
After talking to the farmers, Jindal said the embankments of Markanda would be strengthened. Also, where its width was less, the officials should prepare a plan to install sheet pile retaining wall so that soil erosion could be prevented. He listened to the problems of the farmers and instructed the officials to resolve the issues.
The MP told the officials to study the permanent solution to the problem by holding a meeting with the farmers and prepare a masterplan, so that such a situation did not arise in the area in future.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target to make India a developed nation by 2047, and new schemes are being implemented every day for the welfare of every section of society. Every possible effort is also being made to deal with the situation arising after an emergency situation like floods,” Jindal said.
