President highlights role of varsities in fourth industrial revolution

President Droupadi Murmu today highlighted the pivotal role of educational institutions like JC Bose University of Science and Technology in addressing the challenges and leveraging the opportunities presented by the fourth industrial revolution.
She was addressing the fifth convocation of the JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, in Faridabad. It was presided over by Governor of Haryana and Chancellor of the university Bandaru Dattatreya. Vice-Chancellor Prof Sushil Kumar Tomar was also present on the occasion. The President conferred 13 PhD degrees and awarded two medals and certificates to students in the presence of the Governor.
Murmu emphasised the role of educational institutions in the fourth industrial revolution and stated that the university could set an example for others by leading in research and investigation. She noted that the new National Education Policy (NEP) focused on promoting research and a scientific approach, with emphasis on holistic education, inclusion of research and internships in graduate courses, besides the establishment of the National Research Foundation to promote quality research.
The President suggested that educational institutions should take steps to strengthen and make the role of the alumni association more effective. She described scientist Jagdish Chandra Bose as a pioneer of modern science and a source of inspiration for students to bring about positive change through technology.
A total of 1,536 students and researchers, who completed their degrees in 2023, were conferred degrees, including 998 graduates, 525 postgraduates, and 13 PhDs. Among the recipients, there were 874 boys and 662 girls.
Two meritorious girl students were awarded gold medals: Ishita Juneja received the Governor-Chancellor Gold Medal worth Rs 75,000 as the overall B.Tech topper and Kajal Sharma received the Chief Minister Gold Medal worth Rs 65,000 as the overall B.Tech girl topper.
In his presidential address, Governor Dattatreya commended the significant participation of women researchers in the convocation, highlighting their growing presence and contributions in the field of technology. He emphasised the crucial role of technology graduates in elevating the nation’s standing on the global technological landscape.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Sushil Kumar Tomar extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and presented the university’s annual report. He highlighted the university’s notable achievements over the past years, emphasising on its proven track record on various quality parameters. Prof Tomar said that the university offered more than 60 diverse courses, reflecting its commitment to comprehensive education.
He informed the gathering that the university had taken proactive steps to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, effective from the 2023-24 academic year.
