Chandigarh, February 18

Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HSLSA) and a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Rajan Gupta, has launched a project for the welfare and betterment of slum dwellers to underscore the issues and problems faced by Gurugram slum dwellers.

The project’s launch assumes significance as Gurugram, as per 2011 Census, has the second highest population of slum dwellers in Haryana after Faridabad.

The project is expected to ensure all possible assistance to include them in the mainstream of society and also to look at the concerns associated with slum dwellers, including basic facilities such as health, education and food.

Among other things, the slum dwellers will be made aware of their legal and constitutional rights under the project and will also be connected to the welfare schemes of the Centre/state governments as per their entitlement.

In Gurugram to oversee legal services activities being undertaken, Justice Gupta was accompanied by HSLSA member secretary Parmod Goyal, Gurugram District and Sessions Judge MM Dhonchak and Chief Judicial Magistrate Pardeep Chaudhary.

Justice Gupta inaugurated eye check-up and blood donation-cum-general health check-up camps at the Gurugram district court complex for the court staff, litigants and the general public. Justice Gupta also took stock of legal aid activities, including move to apprise the public about welfare schemes for widows, differently-abled children and senior citizens.
