The Mewat Vikas Sabha, along with several other social organisations, staged a protest against the allegedly crumbling healthcare services at Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College, Nalhar (Nuh). The demonstrators submitted a memorandum to the college director, Dr Mukesh Kumar, expressing concern and demanding urgent intervention.

According to the memorandum, the healthcare system at the college has virtually collapsed. Protesters pointed out a severe shortage of essential medicines, while crucial diagnostic machines such as X-ray and ultrasound equipment have either been defunct for months or were never operational.

The protesters alleged that the hospital has effectively become just a referral centre, unable to handle even basic or emergency cases due to the absence of senior doctors.

“Nalhar Medical College should be the main centre of health services for the people of Mewat, but it has failed to fulfil its basic responsibility,” said Ramzan Chaudhary, one of the representatives. “Local people and social organisations have demanded that the government and college administration take immediate action to ensure medicine availability, repair of machines and appointment of senior doctors. If the situation remains the same, protests will intensify,” he warned.

Local MLA Aftab Ahmed also expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of the college. “While Nuh is among the most backward districts in North India, the current state government has paid no attention,” he said. “The health services are in a shambles here. Congress gave the medical college and they killed it. We have staged dharnas and raised the issue in the Vidhan Sabha, but so far, we have received no concrete or positive response,” he added.
