Women residents of Barsi Patti village in Jind district on Tuesday staged a protest over potable water crisis faced by the villagers.

The demonstration was staged outside the office of the Executive Engineer of the Public Health and Engineering Department.

According to information, the protesters were upset with the alleged failure of department authorities in ensuring potable water supply to the village.

They gathered at the Narwana-Patiala National Highway in the morning, blocking the stretch and raising slogans against the department.

The police rushed to the site after the blockade. Cops from the Narwana city police, and Naveen Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Officer of the Public Health Engineering Department, tried to pacify the protest.

The SDO assured the women that the issue would be resolved soon, after which they lifted the blockade.

According to the protesters, they have been grappling with a severe drinking water shortage for quite some time.

The situation had worsened due to the intense summer heat, they added. Despite repeatedly informing officials and raising the matter with the higher authorities, they failed to address the grievance, protesters alleged.
