Protests at Rohtak over Pahalgam massacre
Different political, social, commercial, religious and students' organisations staged protest demonstrations against the Pahalgam massacre at Rohtak on Friday.
Local Congress leaders and workers led by Rohtak MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra, Kalanaur MLA Shakuntala Khatak and former Haryana Home Minister Subhash Batra took out a candle march to pay homage to the slain persons and register their protest against terrorism late this evening.
Students of Rohtak-based universities and colleges also took out a candle march under the aegis of the Students Federation of India (SFI) to register their protest against the terror attack.
Earlier in the day, representatives of the Arya Samaj organisations staged a protest demonstration in the city. They sought strict action against the terrorists and raised slogans against Pakistan.
Activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged protest demonstrations in different parts of the district and burnt effigies of terrorism and Pakistan.
The protesters demanded that Pakistan be declared a terrorist nation by the international community.
Arhtiyas at the local vegetable market also burnt effigies of terrorism and raised slogans against Pakistan.
They sought tough action against terrorism and fresh air strikes on Pakistan.
Local traders' leader Sahil Maggu said terrorism should not be tolerated any more and strictest possible action must be taken without considering its impact on trade and tourism.
Businessmen of Meham town in the district also staged a protest demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the local SDM.
Protests held in Ambala, K'shetra
Ambala: A large number of people under the banners of various organisations held protests in Ambala and Kurukshetra on Friday.
People raised slogans against Pakistan and burnt effigies.
Demanding action against those responsible for the attack, VHP and Bajrang Dal members led the protest in Ambala City.
Mayor Shailja Sachdeva also participated in the protest. Similar protests were held in Saha of Ambala, and Shahabad of Kurukshetra.
Later in the evening, Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora, Shahabad MLA Ramkaran Kala, Pehowa MLA Mandeep Chatha and other Congress leaders took out a candle march in Kurukshetra.
