Udham Singh was a revolutionary belonging to the Ghadar Party. He shot dead Michael O’Dwyer, a former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, in London on March 13, 1940 to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919. Udham Singh was subsequently convicted of the murder and hanged on July 31, 1940. –IANS
