Race heats up for BJP tickets ahead of Karnal MC elections

145 apply for councillor ticket , 13 for Mayor

With the Karnal Municipal Corporation (MC) elections approaching, enthusiasm among ticket aspirants in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is high.

As many as 145 applicants have applied for Councillor ticket, while 13 have applied for the Mayor ticket.

Applicants handed over their applications to the party’s district officiating president, Brij Gupta, at Karnal Kamal, the BJP office in the district, on Thursday, with a cheque of Rs 51,000 for the Mayor ticket, and Rs 11,000 for the councillor ticket. Also, four have applied for the Chairperson ticket, 19 for the ticket of Indri Municipal Committee Councillor, four for the Nilokheri MC Chairperson ticket, and five for the by-election of MC Assandh Chairperson.

Former Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, former minister Shashipal Mehta’s son Sanjeev Mehta, former Senior Deputy Mayor Krishan Garg, his son Monik Garg, former Senior Deputy Mayor Rajesh Aghi, former district president Ashok Sukhija, Anup Bhardwaj, Mukesh Arora, Yogesh Bhogra, Nishant Kumar Shanu, Bharat Bhushan Kapoor and Vinay Poswal are among the applicants for the Mayor ticket.

“We have invited applications from ticket aspirants for the posts of Councillor and Mayor for the Karnal MC, for Chairperson and Councillor of Indri and Nilokheri, and for the by-election for the post of the Assandh Chairperson. Party workers expressed a lot of enthusiasm while filing their applications. We have collected their applications and will send them to the party high command to be finalised,” said Gupta.

The party was fully prepared for the MC elections, and BJP would win in the polls with a massive margin, added the district officiating president.

Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, who was also present at the party office, said, “Each and every one of our workers is ready for the elections, and we will win these polls.”
