Rahul Gandhi begins Haryana Congress revamp with senior leaders' meet
Setting the tone for Congress party's revamp plan in Haryana, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday initiated a series of meetings with senior leaders under the party’s ‘Sangathan Srujan Abhiyan’ — a campaign aimed at internal rejuvenation.
Gandhi started the first meeting by holding consultations with 17 senior leaders, including former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, party in-charge BK Hariprasad, Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan, and Members of Parliament Kumari Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala, to gather feedback on the party’s restructuring.
Former Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar, who recently rejoined the party after a stint with the BJP, also attended the meeting, making a surprise appearance.
The Congress in Haryana has been plagued by rampant factionalism and has been functioning without a formal organisational structure since 2014, which cost it dearly in the 2024 Assembly polls.
Later in the day, Gandhi is scheduled to meet 22 district observers to chalk out a strategy for rebuilding the party machinery in the state. The election of district presidents is scheduled to be completed in the first phase.
