Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft allegations politically motivated: Om Prakash Dhankar

BJP national secretary and former minister Om Prakash Dhankar has termed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of vote tampering and vote theft as “baseless” and “politically motivated”.

“The Election Commission is a constitutionally empowered and highly competent institution that works with transparency. Every complaint is addressed as per rules and within time. Instead of setting a false political narrative, Rahul Gandhi should approach the Election Commission if he has any genuine grievance,” said Dhankar while addressing a gathering during Tiranga Yatra in Jhajjar on Tuesday.

He added that anyone who maligns constitutional institutions cannot be considered working in the national interest. Taking a dig at the Congress, he accused the Opposition party of having a long history of manipulating public sentiment and elections.

“After the death of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991, the Congress emotionally exploited the voters to swing the election in its favour. Even after Independence, the people of India wanted Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to become PM, but Congress, through political manipulation and vote theft, handed the post to Jawaharlal Nehru,” he alleged.

Dhankar remarked that parties like Congress are unable to organise themselves effectively. “In Karnataka, when one of their own ministers exposed the false narrative of vote theft he was removed from the post. This is nothing short of dictatorship,” he said.
