Jind, March 4

The recent rain, which lashed the region two days ago, has turned the bus stand in Narwana into a pond, exposing the drainage system in the area.

The rainwater has not been drained out even after two days of the rain.

According to officials, a motor is installed to drain out the rainwater from the bus stand. However, they said the water has not been drained due to a long power cut.

Meanwhile, passengers have to wade through the accumulated water, which is causing inconvenience to them. A large number of passengers board buses every day.

Buses plying between Hisar and Chandigarh have a halt at the Narwana bus stand.

The Haryana Roadways staff also said they have to pick up and drop the passengers outside the bus stand on the road due to the stagnant water.

“Waterlogging is a common problem during rain. The situation gets worse in the monsoon. Though officials have installed a motor to drain out the water from the bus stand, it takes days to finish the task during the monsoon,” said a bus driver.

Another official said, “Narwana is an important stoppage for passengers and drivers to take refreshments. The buses prefer other destinations for taking refreshments due to waterlogging at the bus stand.”

Duty inspector Shamsher Singh said the bus stand is situated in a low-lying area as rainwater gets accumulated on the premises.

“The bus stand was constructed 35 years ago. Gradually, the adjoining areas witnessed development and as a result, the bus stand has taken a bowl shape and the rainwater enters the complex from adjoining roads and streets,” he said.

Shamsher Singh said due to power cuts, they could not drain out the water with the help of the electric motor.
