“We woke up to heavy rain. But, the weather was pleasant, providing relief from the scorching heat,” said Himanshu, a resident of Jagadhri.

On roads being waterlogged across the twin cities, people questioned the works done by the municipal corporation to clean drains and nullahs.

“The Municipal Corporation has been cleaning drains spending crores of rupees. Despite this, a number of areas of the twin cities are waterlogged,” said Naveen Kumar of Yamunanagar.

Mayor Suman Bahamani visited several areas to know the status of waterlogging today.

She got the water drained out by the MCYJ workers at some places.

On waterlogging, she reprimanded the contractor of the agency doing the work of cleaning the drains and nullahs and instructed him to speed up the cleaning of drains.

She sought a report from all municipal councillors about the places, where there was waterlogging in their wards.

She also directed the officials concerned of the MCYJ to get the drains cleaned and get the water drained out.

She asked the Commissioner of the MCYJ, Akhil Pilani, to take action against those who were negligent in cleaning the drains and nullahs.

The employees of the MCYJ remained on duty on Sunday and cleaned the garbage stuck in the drains to solve the waterlogging problem.
