Hisar, July 26
A district court on Monday acquitted controversial self-styled godman Sant Rampal and three of his aides in a case registered under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules Act.
A team of the Drug Control Department prepared an inventory of the allopathic and ayurvedic medicines, and equipment during their inspection of Satlok Ashram on November 28, 2014.
Booked in 2014
Rampal and his three aides were booked in connection with the recovery of 134 types of allopathic drugs from the ‘Prathmik Chikitsalaya’ at Satlok Ashram in Hisar’s Barwala in 2014. The police arrested Rampal after a weeklong operation.
The Drug Control Officer filed a complaint with the court in March 2016.
Advocate JK Gakhar, counsel for the accused, however, argued that the team of Drug Control Officers carried out an inspection of the Satlok Ashram and found that neither any doctor was found practising on the premises in question nor any prescription /OPD slip and receipt
of sale had been recovered by the police. No patient came forward to depose before the court who took treatment from the said ‘Prathmik Chikitsalaya’, he argued in the court.
The Court of ADJ Ved Prakash Sirohi stated that the prosecution had miserably failed to prove its case against accused Rampal and his aides — Rajender, Baljit and Bijender — and acquitted them. — TNS
