Rao Inderjit seeks probe into Gurugram Metro delay, asks CM to fix responsibility
Local MP and Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Tuesday called for fixing responsibility for the delay in the Gurugram Metro expansion project, saying the seven-year wait for its commencement was unacceptable.
“What should have started in 2018 was delayed without any reason, which has cost the Millennium City heavily. The Chief Minister should fix responsibility for the lapse,” he said while interacting with reporters.
The minister pointed out that despite the Prime Minister laying the foundation stone, the project took over a year and a half to move forward. “I held my first meeting on Metro expansion with GMDA in 2018. The state said it had approved and submitted the project to the Centre. But when I checked with Union ministers like Hardeep Puri, they told me the proposal never reached them. Gurugram cannot be treated this way,” he said.
Rao also flagged similar delays in the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). “The project announced along with the Meerut RRTS hasn’t even taken off, while its counterpart is already operational. I have written to Union Minister ML Khattar to expedite it as it is vital for South Haryana’s growth,” he said.
Listing other pending infrastructure, Rao said, “Gurugram is Haryana’s economic centre. How do we justify delays of seven years for projects like a new civil hospital, revamped bus stand, railway station or sports stadium? Millennium City contributes 70% of the state’s revenue and must get its due, otherwise we will go backwards in development.”
