The police today booked a woman, who had accused a Haryanavi artiste of rape in November 2023, for attempt to suicide after two of her alleged accomplices were arrested on Wednesday for an extortion bid. Her “accomplices” had approached the artiste to “settle” the case.
Woman undergoing treatment at hospital
- The woman, who was booked under Section 309 of the IPC, is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
- The Hansi police received a tip-off that an attempt was made by the complainant to “settle” the rape case by taking money.
- Thereafter, acting on the tip-off, the police conducted a raid and arrested two persons, identified as Kapil Sharma, who is a leader of the BJP youth wing, and Satpal Bittu, with Rs 1.5 lakh.
The complainant, who was booked under Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), is undergoing treatment at a local hospital here.
The artiste, Naveen Neeru, was booked on various charges, including rape and criminal intimidation, at the Hansi police station on November 17, 2023.
The Hansi police received a tip-off that an attempt was made by the complainant to “settle” the rape case by taking money.
Thereafter, acting on the tip-off, the police conducted a raid and arrested two persons, identified as Kapil Sharma, who is a leader of the BJP youth wing, and Satpal Bittu, with Rs 1.5 lakh.
A case under Sections 384 and 120B of the IPC was registered against the suspects and the woman.
According to information, soon after the arrest of Kapil and Satpal, the woman consumed intoxicants. She also wrote a four-page note and alleged that she was being pressurised by Naveen and his family to withdraw the case. She also accused the police of being hand in glove with the artiste.
Jagjeet Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Hansi City police station, said two suspects were arrested in the extortion case as they were trying to take money to settle the rape case. The woman was also booked for attempt to suicide.
Sources said the police initiated action after getting to know that a deal was struck to withdraw the rape charges against Naveen in lieu of Rs 15 lakh.
