Veterinarians at the Veterinary Polyclinic in Bhiwani have successfully performing a rare surgery on an injured snake. Following the complex surgical procedure, the snake has fully recovered.
According to Dr Joni, a veterinarian, a part of the reptile’s body was severely damaged, and had begun to decay. The snake could have died had it not been treated, he added.
After hours of meticulously operating upon the snake, the surgery was completed successfully. Veterinary surgeon Dr Subhash administered anaesthesia, while Dr Joni performed the surgery.
Dr Ravinder Sahrawat, Deputy Director (Animal Husbandry), praised the veterinary team for their prompt action. He said the snake was brought in by Wildlife Department officials, and veterinarians instantly decided to perform the surgery, saving its life.
He said the operation highlighted advancements in veterinary science.
The polyclinic had been conducting five-six surgeries daily, including complex procedures like C-sections, rumenotomies, bone pinning and plating for fractures in dogs, Dr Sahrawat added.
Previously, such procedures were only performed in Hisar, but now they were available in Bhiwani as well, he informed.
He said the clinic had treated 50-60 cases of urinary blockage in calves during winter, and their emergency surgery team operated even at night.
They also provided treatment for birds and other wildlife, he added.
The hospital had been equipped with modern surgical and laboratory equipment to ensure free treatment for livestock, he said.
An ambulance service was also available and could be accessed via toll-free number 1962, he added.
