Kurukshetra University Vice Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva inaugurated the 10th Ratnawali Yuva Saang Mahotsav at Budha village on Friday.

The Saang Mahotsav is being organised by Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa, on the directions of the Youth and Cultural Department, Kurukshetra University. The festival, started on March 21, will conclude on March 24. On the first day, the event saw enthusiastic participation from the youth, elders and women of the village, who enjoyed the vibrant cultural celebrations.

Prof Som Nath Sachdeva praised the Saang as a priceless cultural heritage of Haryana, while emphasising that it holds a unique place in the state’s identity. He highlighted the significant role of society in preserving this tradition and commended the Youth and Cultural Department, Kurukshetra University, for its excellence and dedication in promoting this art form. He further said the large crowd present at the event demonstrated that the art of Saang remains alive and cherished in Haryana.

In his address, Pawan Garg, Chairman, IGN College Governing Body, called the Saang a living example of Haryanvi culture. He encouraged college students presenting the Saang to continue their efforts in preserving and promoting this rich tradition.

“While elders recognise and honour our culture, today’s youth seem distracted by modern gadgets. These students, presenting the Saang before villagers, are making an invaluable contribution by connecting the younger generation with our cultural roots,” he said.

College Principal Kushal Pal expressed gratitude to Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, and Director, Youth and Cultural Department, Kurukshetra University, for entrusting the responsibility of organising the event to Indira Gandhi National College. He said the event aims to promote Saang, a traditional folk theatre form of Haryana, among students and the local community.
