Yamunanagar, February 11
A team of the local administration has seized the record of vehicle registration certificates (RCs) at the SDM offices of Jagadhri and Bilaspur of Yamunanagar district on Wednesday.
Under the supervision of officiating Deputy Commissioner Ranjit Kaur, the action was taken by the local police and the Special Investigating Team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jagadhri, Rajinder Singh.
Sources said that on the direction of higher authorities of the Haryana Police, this action came after a vehicle registration scam came to the fore at the Jagadhri and Bilaspur SDM offices recently.
A vehicle registration scam had come to light at SDM office, Jagadhri, when SDM Darshan Kumar got a preliminary verification conducted after he received a letter from the CIA staff of the Sirsa police on January 16 seeking the registration details of some vehicles.
In the preliminary verification, when it was found that 15-16 RCs had been made here after tampering with the vehicles’ engine and chassis numbers, Jagadhri SDM Darshan Kumar got an FIR registered against four data entry operators here on January 21.
Similarly, 29 fake registration certificates (RCs) of cars were made at SDM office, Bilaspur, after tampering with vehicles’ engine and chassis numbers in the past few months.
On the complaint of Bilaspur SDM Virender Dhull, a case was registered against a person at Bilaspur police station in this connection on February 1.
Sources said that the personnel of the local police and SIT today went to the SDM offices at Bilaspur and Jagadhri and seized the record related to vehicle registration certificates from January 1, 2018 to February 10, 2021.
According to information, policemen were also deputed outside the record rooms of both SDMs.
SIT head Rajinder Singh said that the record of vehicle registration certificates had been seized at Jagadhri and Bilaspur SDM offices on Wednesday.
Sources say incidents related to fake RCs are reported mostly in cases of loan default when firms take away vehicles financed by them or when a buyer fails to get the vehicle registered within the stipulated time period. Firm agents get fake RCs of such vehicles prepared to sell those at cheap rates, they added.
