Red Cross Society gives assistive devices to 332 specially abled persons
Red Cross Society, Yamunanagar, today held a camp in the Red Cross building in Jagadhri to distribute equipment among specially abled persons. In this camp, 332 persons benefitted under various schemes of the Centre.
The chief guest of the programme was Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta.
A senior officer of Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Ashok Kumar Sahu, was also present at the programme.
DC Parth Gupta said that the Centre was working to bring specially abled people into the mainstream of society for their welfare. He said that this programme was organised in collaboration with ALIMCO, district administration and Indian Red Cross Society, Yamunanagar. In this camp, 332 beneficiaries benefitted under ADIP and RVY schemes of the Government of India.
“Assistive devices and equipment worth about Rs 68.29 lakh were distributed to the beneficiaries,” said Gupta. The beneficiaries were pre-identified through camps in the district. “Under the government schemes, various categories of assistive devices and equipment manufactured by ALIMCO were provided to the specially abled persons. The number of these devices and equipment is 697.”
He said that the modern assistive devices that were distributed to the beneficiaries included 101 motorised tricycles, 64 tricycles, 48 wheelchairs, 16 commode wheelchairs, 150 hearing aids, 118 crutches, one visually impaired kit, 90 sticks, 12 LS belts, 14 silicone cushions, two tripods, two cervical collars, 22 knee braces, one CP chair, two rollators and 54 prosthetic limbs and calipers.
The DC also encouraged voluntary blood donors by giving them badges in the blood donation camp organised in the Red Cross building.
Red Cross Secretary Randeep Singh said that as per the instructions of Deputy Commissioner and head of District Red Cross Society Parth Gupta, prosthetic limbs and other assistive devices were distributed free of cost to all the needy persons in the district.
