A workshop on 'Short Films and Reels Production' that concluded at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) here on Tuesday evening not only equipped students from various higher educational institutions with valuable skills but also sparked their creativity and enthusiasm for digital media production, making it a memorable and educational experience for them.

Hosted by the department of journalism and mass communication (DJMC), MDU, the event also provided valuable insights into the intricacies of creating impactful short films and reels in today's digital age. Interestingly, the enthused students created their own reels and short films across various locations on the university campus by incorporating techniques learned during the sessions.

The final day of the workshop saw an interactive session with Prof Harish Kumar, head of DJMC, highlighting the significance of short films and reels as powerful tools for mass communication.

Assistant professor Sunit Mukherjee, another key speaker, emphasised the importance of digital storytelling in today's era and the need for the students to excel in digital short filmmaking.

Earlier, Rakesh Andania, an expert in documentary filmmaking, took the participants through the technical aspects of short film production, emphasising the use of ICT-enabled effects, the importance of high-quality cinematography and the craft of writing an engaging screenplay. He encouraged the students to explore creativity and precision, especially in capturing emotions and stories within the limited duration of a short film or reel.

The workshop was a collaborative effort, with research scholar Priya Kusum coordinating the field filming activities. Research scholars Kuldeep, Vinod Gill, Mahima, Ashu, Sahil, Ajay, and Pankaj contributed significantly to management of the event.

The students from various departments of the MDU, LN Hindu College, Rohtak, Government PG Nehru College Jhajjar, and BMU, Rohtak, participated, making the event a diverse and enriching experience for all.
