Panipat, July 11
Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan appealed to the Kanwariyas to register themselves at their respective police stations and on the portal opened by the Uttarakhand Police.
Enroute safe passage
As per sources, Panipat, Sonepat, Karnal and Yamunanagar are the border districts of Uttar Pradesh and it was the responsibility of these districts to provide safe passage to the Kanwariyas of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.
The district police have made elaborate arrangements to conduct the Kanwar Yatra peacefully, which is starting on July 14 after a gap of two years due to the Covid pandemic, the SP said. It was assumed that the number of Kanwariyas would be more than double than the previous years , the SP asserted.
As per sources, Panipat, Sonepat, Karnal and Yamunanagar are the border districts of Uttar Pradesh and it was the responsibility of these districts to provide safe passage to the Kanwariyas of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. Lakhs of Kanwariyas go to Haridwar in Uttarakhand to bring the holy Ganga jal (Ganga river water) to offer at Shiva temples in their villages or adjoining areas on the occasion of Maha Shivratri during the Shrawan month. The Uttarakhand police have estimated that over 4 crore Kanwariyas will reach Haridwar this year, the sources said. SP Sawan said the Kanwariyas going to Uttarakhand must carry their valid IDs, which would be checked at various places. Sawan further stated that they should enroll their details — names, addresses, mobile numbers etc— at their respective police posts and police stations so that if any problem persisted during the Yatra, it could be resolved by contacting the state police concerned.
Besides, the Uttarakhand police have also opened the online portal https://policecitizenportal.uk.gov.in/kavad for registration. The Kanwariyas should register themselves on this portal too, the SP appealed. The traffic will be diverted from Sanoli Road during the peak of the Yatra while the extra force will be deployed on Sanoli Road, Chautala Road, Gohana Road and Assandh Road, the SP added.
