Karnal, August 24

The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) Deemed University, here, organised its 18th convocation in virtual mode. Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General of Indian Council of Agriculture Research, New Delhi, was the chief guest.

Dr MS Chauhan, Director, NDRI, conferred degrees to 458 students comprising 127 PhD students, 249 Masters and 82 BTech students through the online mode. On the occasion, Dr Mohapatra rechristened the guest house of NDRI in the name of Dr KC Sen, former NDRI Director of Independent India. A testing on wheel mobile van was also inaugurated.

In his convocation address, Dr Trilochan congratulated all students and applauded the NDRI for being the number one university for the past three years and providing a large number of trained young professionals in the field of dairy production, processing and management. He also said due to various testing techniques, adulteration of milk in India had reduced from 38 per cent to only 3 per cent. He added that still more had to be done to increase the dairy farmers’ income, new techniques had to be developed for checking milk quality, means for increasing the value-addition in dairy supply chain and enhancing the productivity of dairy animals.

He also stressed on the need to create world-class universities and bring Indian milk quality to the international level to increase exports. Director Dr Chauhan outlined the progress report underlining the institute’s achievements during the past two years.
