Renu Bala Gupta takes charge as Karnal Mayor
Renu Bala Gupta officially took charge as the Mayor of Karnal on Monday, marking her third consecutive term.
On March 25, she took the oath at a state-level function in Panchkula with other mayors, councillors and chairpersons of different civic bodies.
Gupta won the seat by a margin of 25,359 votes, defeating Congress candidate Manoj Wadhwa. She secured 83,630 votes, while Wadhwa received 58,271 votes. She was first elected in 2013, when city councillors voted for her. In 2018, she won through a direct election, and now, in 2025, she has again emerged victorious through direct voting.
Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, Indri MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap, Assandh MLA Yogendra Rana, Nilokheri MLA Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi, BJP district president Parveen Lather, BJP former officiating district president Brij Gupta, councillors and residents congratulated the Mayor for assuming charge and wished her good luck.
Four MLAs present there symbolically seated her on the Mayor’s chair. Following the ceremony, Gupta, along with MLAs, held a meeting with Municipal Commissioner Dr Vaishali, councillors and other officials, highlighting her plan for the city’s development.
Gupta highlighted her focus areas — including road repairs and filling potholes.
She emphasised the need to regularise unauthorised colonies, a long-standing demand of many residents.
“The public has entrusted me with this responsibility for the third time, and I see it as both an honour and a challenge. The real test will be meeting the expectations of the people who have placed their faith in me. I assure the people of Karnal that I will address civic issues,” she said.
