The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has again reposed its faith in two-time Karnal Municipal Corporation Mayor Renu Bala Gupta by fielding her for the March 2 mayoral election.
Besides, the party has announced candidates for the posts of chairperson in Indri, Nilokheri and Assandh in Karnal district and Pundri, Kalayat and Siwan in Kaithal district. Jaspal has been fielded for the post of chairperson in Indri MC, Sanmeet Kaur Ahuja for Nilokheri MC and Sunita Ardana has been fielded in Assandh.
The party has fielded Shelly Munjal for chairperson’s post in Siwan, Mainpal Singh in Kalayat and Mamta Saini for chairperson’s post in Pundri MC.
The party announced the names late Friday evening.
The results will be declared on March 12 and the last date of the nomination process is February 17.
Renu Bala Gupta has held the Karnal mayor’s post twice earlier. She was first elected in 2013 when councillors chose the mayor and later secured a direct election victory in 2018. She was among aspirants from Karnal Assembly segment in the Vidhan Sabha poll.
Expressing her gratitude to the party leadership, Gupta said she was committed to continuing the development work in Karnal. “I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Power Minister Manohar Lal, CM Nayab Singh Saini, state president Mohan Lal Badoli and other senior leaders for fielding me for the mayor post,” she said.
“Karnal has witnessed rapid growth over the years under the BJP rule and I will ensure that the momentum continues. The people of Karnal will again support the BJP to establish a ‘triple-engine government’ for speedier progress,” she said.
Her husband and officiating BJP district president Brij Gupta also expressed his gratitude to the party leadership and claimed that they would win the mayoral poll with a huge margin.
Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand claimed that the BJP will win the seat. He said all party workers would work as they have done in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
