Residents face inconvenience as incessant rain causes waterlogging in Rohtak

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday night caused waterlogging on several main roads and low-lying areas of Rohtak city. While water was drained from many locations by morning, a stretch of road near the Radio Station remained inundated till noon, causing inconvenience to commuters.

The Municipal Corporation (MC) authorities installed additional pump sets near the TB Hospital and Chinyot Colony underpass to ensure drainage of water without any delay.

Former minister and senior BJP leader Manish Grover was seen inspecting the drainage system on-site, assessing the situation and response efforts. He appealed to the public not to dump waste in stormwater drains, as it disrupts water flow and aggravates waterlogging.

According to official information, 70 mm rainfall was measured in Rohtak, 35 mm in Sampla, 16 mm in Meham, and 6 mm in Kalanaur town.

Prem Singh, a retired teacher from Prem Nagar, said Radio Station Chowk remained waterlogged until afternoon, causing traffic jams and vehicle breakdowns. Due to waterlogging, many two-wheeler drivers chose alternate street routes to reach Gohana Adda and other main markets.

“Garbage lying along roads was seen floating in the accumulated water, making the situation worse,” he said.

Surendra, a shop owner at Medical Turn, said the chowk was submerged when he arrived in the morning. Efforts were underway to remove water, he said. Commuters faced inconvenience as stagnant water remained on one side of the road leading to the PGIMS, he said.

Manish Grover also posted a video on social media showing him clearing a stormwater hole on the elevated flyover, urging people to keep drains clean to ensure proper rainwater drainage.

Several people commented on Grover’s post. Lalit Mohan, a shopkeeper at Chhotu Ram Chowk, said the chowk remained inundated until 8 am as pumps were not operational during the night and started working at 5 am.

Municipal Commissioner Anand Sharma said teams were deployed overnight to address water drainage issues. He said permanent pumps were installed at multiple locations, including Sector-1, Sector-2, in villages Baliyana, Kheri Sadh, Sunaria Kalan and Sunaria Khurd, Appu Ghar pond, Garhi Bohar, Rainkapura pond, Mata Darwaza, near railway station, and Chinyot Colony.

“During rain, pumps in Sector-1 and Sector-2 were activated immediately. Pumps at Chhotu Ram Chowk were also started without delay to ensure quick water drainage. Inspections were carried out at Rainkapura, Mata Darwaza and other sites,” Sharma said.
