Karnal, June 2
Residents of Narsi village, who have been protesting over poor roads, sewerage and water issues for the past seven days, today performed a havan at the protest site.
They urged the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) to ensure the availability of basic amenities to them. The protesters handed over a memorandum to SDM Ayush Sinha and later met Mayor Renu Bala Gupta.
Shreya Manchanda, president of the Narsi Village Resident Welfare Association, said roads in the area were in poor condition and they were not getting potable water.
“We have raised the issues at several platforms, including in front of the Chief Minister, MP, DC and KMC Commissioner, but to no avail,” said Shreya.
“The colony was earlier being run by a real estate company, but the government took over the township in 2016 as the company had failed to deposit its taxes. The company had taken maintenance charges from the residents, but did not spend money on development,” alleged Ilam Singh Kunjpura, former president of the association.
He said the CM had also directed the KMC to ensure the basic amenities in the area.
Mayor Renu Bala Gupta said,”I have discussed the issue with the DC and the KMC Commissioner. The matter will also be taken up with the Director, Urban Local Bodies.”
