Yamunanagar, August 28

Residents of Majri Tapu and Ghoron Pipli villages in Yamunanagar today gave a memorandum to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya through Deputy Commissioner Capt Manoj Kumar in which they have threatened that they would boycott the Assembly elections.

The villagers said the government was paying no attention to their demand of constructing a bridge over the Yamuna river between Bhogpur and Majri Tappu villages.

They said they had earlier to boycotted the Lok Sabha elections over the issue.

Former sarpanch of Majri Tappu village Ashok Kumar and the present sarpanch, Arun Kumar, said Majri Tapu and Ghoron Pipli villages were part of Haryana, but the villages were situated on the other side of the Yamuna river close (near Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh). They said they had to travel more than 25 km to reach Yamunanagar from Majri Tapu and Ghoron Pipli villages.

They added that if a bridge was constructed over the Yamuna river here, the residents of those villages would have to travel only 10-12 km.

They said that residents of those villages had to go to Yamunanagar daily for work or education.

“We have been demanding a bridge over the river for a long time to connect Majri Tapu and Ghoron Pipli villages directly to Yamunanagar district, but the government is not serious about taking action on our demand,” said Arun Kumar.

They added that they had boycotted the Lok Sabha election of 2024 and now they would be forced to boycott the Assembly elections, too, if their demand of the construction of a bridge was not fulfilled.
