Residents upset with admn on blocked sewer line
A stretch on the Rohtak road in Gurdwara Colony in Jind town has been grappling with a severe sewerage blockage for the past three months, causing major inconvenience to residents.
The residents alleged that they were fed up with repeatedly visiting the department concerned to get the sewerage system cleaned up. Despite submitting complaints to the Deputy Commissioner (DC), no action has been taken till now, they said.
Rajkumar Goyal, president of the Jind Vikas Sangathan, demanded immediate resolution of the issue and warned that residents might resort to protests if the matter was not addressed within a week.
In the complaint, Gyan Prakash, a resident of Gurdwara Colony, said the situation had become unbearable, with stagnant and overflowing sewage due to the choked system that had made their life hell. He said they had approached the department many times, but no measures had been implemented till now. “The problem of sewerage blockage has disrupted our lives. We even raised the issue at the DC’s Janta Darbar, and while the complaint was forwarded, nothing concrete has been done,” he said. Prakash said the sewerage system in street numbers 3,4 and 5 was blocked for many days in the locality.
Goyal said, “This is not just a problem of one ward or colony, it reflects a systemic failure across the town. The administration must establish a fixed timeline for resolving public complaints and hold employees accountable. Notices should be issued if work remains incomplete within the stipulated time,” he said.
Residents of the colony have staged symbolic protests against the department concerned and demanded prompt intervention to restore the system and to get the sewerage lines cleaned as soon as possible. They warned that the situation might escalate as they would have to resort to agitation if the issue remained unresolved.
