Sonepat, February 15
Former Chief Minister and leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the government should resolve the farmers-related issues through dialogue, adding that their demands should be accepted.
He inaugurated the Girls Model School established by Tikaram Shikshan Sansthan and appreciated the organisation’s contribution in the field of education. Apart from this, he reached Barona village of Kharkhoda to unveil the statues of leader Subhash Chandra Bose, martyr poet Mehar Singh and his wife Prem Kaur.
Crop purchase-related scams
Scams related to crop purchase, compensation, crop insurance and, sometimes, FPO are continuously taking place with farmers. Under the coalition government, the farmers are not getting the minimum support price, compensation, timely delivery of fertilisers, seeds, insecticides, and water for irrigation. —Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Former CM
On this occasion, Hooda said Barona, the birthplace of Mehar Singh, is a historical village. “During a Panchayat held here between 1910 and 1911, it was decided that an educational institution would be opened here, and his grandfather Chaudhary Maturam ji was given the responsibility to ensure that everyone had the access to education. Following this, the first educational institution was established in Rohtak under his chairmanship,” he said.
Talking to mediapersons after the programme, Hooda said the BJP-JJP government was continuously playing with the interests of the farmers. “Scams related to crop purchase, compensation, crop insurance and, sometimes FPO are taking place continuously with the farmers. Under the coalition government, farmers are not getting the minimum support price (MSP), compensation, timely delivery of fertilisers, seeds, insecticides, and water for irrigation,” he said.
Hooda said the government had once again deprived seven districts of Cluster 2 of crop insurance. “About 3 lakh farmers from across Sonepat, Ambala, Karnal, Hisar, Jind, Mahendragarh and Gurugram of Cluster 2 are waiting for the insurance because the government did not hand over the responsibility to any company in Cluster 2. Last time as well, there was no insurance company in the cluster for kharif crop, while the government had deducted the amount of insurance premium from the accounts of nearly 2 lakh farmers,” he added.
Hooda said with the Congress government coming to power in the state, the responsibility of crop insurance would be handed over to government companies and the farmers would be guaranteed the MSP.
